Hello and welcome to the third episode of our series Learning Treasures of the Internet, where we present to you little gems we find while curating our TeachPitch library. Today we have the Founder of TeachPitch, Aldo de Pape, discussing learning content provided by NASA that you can apply in the classrooms.
Aldo, what was your favourite science subject at school?
Aldo: Even though I had a bigger natural interest in high school for courses like History, Philosophy and Economy – I was also intrigued by Chemistry. I loved finding out about specific chemical processes and the reactions they caused. I regret that I did not focus as much during Physics class – much interesting stuff was shared but it sadly did not capture my imagination as much at the time.
Why are you recommending NASA?
Aldo: I think the NASA videos (especially those describing the planetary system) are exactly what I missed back in the days during my Physics class. I think they are really fascinating and a trigger for students to question more deeply the workings of our planet and its position in the universe, but also phenomena like gravity and the speed of light. Another element to this is that NASA isn’t really known for the production of its learning material and its potential use in the classroom – through TeachPitch educators can discover NASA content and potentially start using it in their lessons.
How do you think NASA can address a genuine challenge teachers face?
Aldo: I would like to leave it to a teacher’s own judgement whether it makes sense to use NASA videos. But as a former student who wasn’t too interested in Physics this would have definitely got me more motivated.
