Hello and welcome to another episode of Learning Treasures of the Internet, where we present you little gems we find while curating our TeachPitch library. Today we would like to introduce you to Game Theory resources from Yale University.
The Oxford Dictionary defines Game Theory as “the branch of mathematics concerned with the analysis of strategies for dealing with competitive situations where the outcome of a participant’s choice of action depends critically on the actions of other participants.”
Nowadays Game Theory is taught as a core part in many university economics programs, so it is not surprising that the Yale University offers a Game Theory module as part of their open online courseware.
Christopher Hein, our Head Curator actually took this module in 2012. This is what he has to say about it: “I took this module during my PhD to refresh and extend my knowledge of Game Theory that I learned during my undergrad days and because I was thinking of using Game Theory as the guiding theoretical framework of my research. I personally always liked the topic because it Game Theory links all kinds of human behaviour to animal behaviour. The course at Yale takes full advantage of this diversity, so that the course is appealing not only to economists, but other social scientists and biologists. The course consists of 24 video sessions, each between 60-90 minutes long, and is accompanied by question sheets and corresponding answers. My personal favourite session is on optimal dating strategies.”
