It’s spring again! Isn’t it lovely to take students out for a field trip? Thought about taking them for a geographical or geological field trip around the countryside? Or walking around the city to sense its charm, and perhaps enhancing their knowledge on history or geography at the same time? Now there is a tool that can help you with all of this.
Take a look at QuizTrail – a new App which lets you easily create, follow and share walking trails anywhere in the world.
QuizTrail works as follows: Players follow the trails on their iPhones, directed to geo-located Trailpoints, with a “getting warmer” feature and hints to help them along the way. A question pops up on the screen when they reach the target location – maybe a trivia question, a cryptic challenge or perhaps something to find, scavenger style. The next leg of the secret route is revealed as the question is answered and players build up a points score for correct or quick answers.
As a Trailblazer you create trails for free using the QuizTrail.com website. Trails can be free to download, or you can set a price for your trail in any one of 25 currencies and receive 70% of the download fees. For individuals, they can create guided walks, blaze fun trails for their friends or set educational tours of historic sites.
The interactive leaderboard for each trail records how students have scored and provides a competitive element.
The content of your trail remains yours and once you’ve set a trail, it stays on the system and you can reuse it again in the future. Also, you can duplicate and edit trails, for example you could amend an existing trail for a different age group.
QuizTrail provides and curates the system and handles all payments – players pay QuizTrail who pay the Trailblazer each month.
The App uses GPS technology so that it works anywhere in the world, even without a mobile phone signal. Where there is a mobile signal the map screen on the App is updated and the leaderboard is active, but this updates automatically when connected to Wi-Fi or a mobile signal after completing the trail.
QuizTrail is an opportunity for you to create engaging content that can be reused and adapted in the future and shared with your colleagues in the profession.
